Tips on how to stop termites

Expose the edges of concrete slabs

It is not unusual for houses built on concrete slabs to have the edge of the concrete slab covered, when it should be exposed. Garden beds or paths/paving are often built directly against the house, covering the slab edge. This makes it easy for termites to gain concealed access directly into the building.

Houses built on concrete slabs should have at least 50mm of the external slab edge showing under the brick walls. This will not stop termites but does aid in the inspection process. It forces termites to make visible tunnels up the outside edge of the slab, which will then be seen on a termite inspection.
